Recent forums
hosted by the Upper Shore Manufacturing & Business Council, Chesapeake College’s
Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Training and the Upper Shore Advanced Technology
Center, have been well received by business and industry. Three overview forums in partnership with
the Maryland
Technology Extension Service are planned on the following topics to
generate interest for a more in-depth course during fall 2001.
QUALITY MANAGEMENT/ISO
9000 - 2000

Presentation will include an overview of
the ISO 9001: 2000 Family of Standards, covering changes from the 1994 version
both in terms of structure and content in order to convey a basic understanding
of the revisions and their potential impact on an organization’s quality
management system. The discussion will
include: the rationale behind the
current revision; the structure of ISO 9001: 2000; the process-based focus and
the performance improvement perspective; quality documentation impacts, as well
as timing, introduction, interpretation and auditing issues. Established in 1984, QMI, a division of the
CSA Group, is one of leading registrars of ISO 9000 Quality Management Systems
in North America and around the world.
QMI has certified about one dozen companies within the Delmarva area.
Mr. Hudson, a registered lead auditor with both RAB and IRCA, has 30 plus years
of industry experience. Most of his
time is spent on quality and consulting assignments to companies on how to
implement ISO 9000 series QMS.

A proactive approach to ergonomic issues can be a competitive tool by reducing injuries and illnesses, decreasing fatigue, absenteeism and turnover while increasing worker safety, productivity, quality, worker satisfaction and morale. This seminar will focus on ergonomic concepts and basics and how it relates to the workplace. Participants will learn ways to reduce insurance costs and workers compensation claims and how to identify problems and propose solutions in the workplace. Learn the importance of developing and implementing an ergonomic program in the workplace and the risk factors for Cumulative Trauma Disorders and Manual Material Handling.
