Recent forums
hosted by the Upper Shore Manufacturing & Business Council, Chesapeake College’s
Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Training and the Upper Shore Advanced Technology
Center, have been well received by business and industry. Two overview forums in partnership with Maryland
Technology Extension Service are planned on the following topics to
generate interest for a more in-depth course during fall 2000.

The
thought of Change, whether in our
private lives or in the corporate environment, results in apprehension due to
uncertainty and is often resisted.
However, Change is inevitable
due to market shifts, customer requirements, technology, regulations, etc. How a company or organization manages change
will often make the difference between success and failure. Also, recognizing the need to change and
actually undertaking a change initiative are two separate issues. Making lasting change leveraging all of the
organization’s talents is critical in today’s fast-paced global market. While this two hour hands-on session will
not make you an expert at creating change, it will enable you to understand and
plan for the complexity of issues to be considered when undergoing even minor
organizational changes.
Wally Gordon, V.P. of
Development, DVCC, states, "The bottleneck for organizational change is
the time required by those involved to understand, accept and support it. Successful change depends upon the commitment
of leadership throughout this transition."

LEAN MANUFACTURING
Thursday, April 20, 2000
8:30 --
11:30 .am.
Chesapeake College, Wye
Mills Campus
Economic Development Center, Room - AUD 01
How would you like to reduce manufacturing lead time
by 80-90% and reduce work in process inventory by 80--90% while simultaneously improving
quality, becoming more responsive to your customers, utilizing less floor
space, and streamlining your production scheduling system, significantly
reducing transaction requirements? The
LEAN approach to manufacturing makes this possible? Lean Manufacturing is a team based systematic approach to
identifying and eliminating wasteful, or non-value adding, activities within
your manufacturing organization.
